2 Days in Charlotte: A Two-Day Plan for Any Days of the Week

A faster plan than the weekend itinerary: both rail neighborhoods on day one, so day two is free for NoDa and one bigger outing.

Quick answer

Day one: Uptown in the morning, South End by Blue Line in the afternoon. Day two: ride north to NoDa (36th Street station) in the morning, then spend the afternoon at either the U.S. National Whitewater Center or Carowinds, which needs a car. Want a slower, car-free version built around Saturday and Sunday? Use the weekend itinerary instead.

How this differs from the weekend itinerary

The weekend itinerary is relaxed: Uptown on Saturday, South End on Sunday and no car at all. This plan packs Uptown and South End into day one so day two can cover NoDa and one big attraction. It also works midweek, though note that the NASCAR Hall of Fame is closed on Tuesdays.

Day one: Uptown and South End

  • Morning: walk from Trade and Tryon to one museum: the NASCAR Hall of Fame (10 a.m.–5 p.m., closed Tuesdays), the Mint Museum Uptown or Discovery Place Science.
  • Afternoon: Blue Line south to South End for lunch, shops and the Rail Trail. Buy a $6.60 day pass if you'll ride more than twice.
  • Evening: dinner in South End or back in Uptown. The free Gold Line streetcar runs across Uptown via CTC/Arena.

Day two: NoDa, then one big outing

Morning in NoDa: take the Blue Line north to 25th Street or 36th Street station for the arts district's murals, galleries and coffee. See the NoDa guide.

Afternoon, pick one:

  • U.S. National Whitewater Center: an All Access day pass is $79, single activities start at $29 for climbing, and parking is $13.
  • Carowinds: home of Fury 325, a 325-foot giga coaster that reaches 95 mph and crosses the state line. A park day is long, so go straight from breakfast if this is your pick, and do NoDa another time.
