Quick answer
Book a Whitewater Center day (an All Access pass is $79), give coaster fans a day at Carowinds for Fury 325, and spend an Uptown afternoon at the NASCAR Hall of Fame's iRacing simulators. Add a Hornets, Panthers or Knights game if the dates fit. Teens with a valid transit or student ID ride the light rail for $1.10.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
The best all-round teen day. An All Access day pass ($79, all ages) covers the available activities that day. Or buy just one: whitewater rafting $69, climbing $29, mountain biking $39, deep water solo $39, and ice skating $25 in season. Parking is $13. Check the daily activity schedule before you go. More in the Whitewater Center guide.
Carowinds
Fury 325 is the draw: the park calls it North America's tallest, fastest and longest giga coaster, with a 325-foot peak, an 81-degree drop and speeds up to 95 mph, crossing the North Carolina–South Carolina line. Plan the whole day. See the Carowinds guide.
NASCAR Hall of Fame
More than 50 interactive experiences, including iRacing simulators on real tracks (minimum height 54 inches) and a Pit Crew Challenge. Combo tickets that add a simulator day pass start at $41 online. It's open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and closed Tuesdays. More in the NASCAR Hall of Fame guide.
Live games
The Hornets play at Spectrum Center in Uptown, the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium, and the Charlotte Knights at Truist Field (324 S Mint St). If your trip is in late December, the Duke's Mayo Bowl is at Bank of America Stadium on December 26, 2026.
Game tickets
If your dates line up with a home game, book the seats early. The Hornets play at Spectrum Center and the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.
A little independence
Uptown, South End and NoDa are all on the LYNX Blue Line, which makes them good for letting older teens explore. K–12 riders with a valid transit or student ID pay $1.10 a ride. CATS asks that children 12 and under ride with an adult. The Blue Line is proof-of-payment, so make sure they buy a ticket first, because riding without one can mean a $50 citation.
Build the trip
Pick from things to do in Charlotte, then shape the days with the itineraries: 2 days in Charlotte already includes one big outing. Traveling with younger kids too? See Charlotte family vacations.
